FAQ's

What is laparoscopic surgery? Laparoscopic surgery is considered a minimally invasive surgery. Compared to open surgery, which is more invasive, laparoscopic surgery involves a minor cut to reach the surgery site. The surgery is performed with the help of a long, thin tube called a laparoscope. This tube has a camera at one end. The surgeon makes a small cut and inserts the laparoscope to evaluate the surgery site. The images transmitted by the camera are viewed on the monitor. Once the site is evaluated, the surgeon makes minor cuts to insert the instrument to perform surgery.

Compared to open surgery, laparoscopy offers several advantages to patients. Some of them are:

  • Less pain and less use of analgesics due to less invasive surgery
  • Faster recovery time
  • Shorter stay at the hospital, thus reducing the overall cost of treatment
  • Less bleeding and less risk of post-surgical complications
  • Less visible scar formation

Some of the surgeries that can be performed through laparoscopic surgery are gastric bypass surgery, the removal of small tumors, endometriosis surgery, biopsies, repairing rectal prolapse, hernia repair surgery, polyp removals, ectopic pregnancy removal, appendix removal, prostate and bladder removal, bowel resection surgery, gallbladder and rectum removal, tube ligation and reversal, liver resection, stomach removal, and testicle correction surgery.

  • Do not drive the vehicle for at least 48 hours after laparoscopic surgery
  • Walk every day after laparoscopic surgery to improve blood flow and reduce the risk of constipation.
  • Avoid taking a bath within 48 hours of surgery.
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Follow your surgeon’s instructions
  • Do not miss the scheduled- follow-up visit
  • Keep hydrated to avoid constipation
  • Take adequate rest after the surgery
